The Pattern of Alzheimer’s: Symptoms and Cell Loss

As Alzheimer’s progresses, more and more of an afflicted person’s brain cells will die, causing further cognitive loss. This progressive loss typically follows a characteristic pattern, attacking certain areas of the brain earlier than others. Because we have some understanding of the functions controlled by each area of the brain, this pattern of cell loss can shed light on the typical progression of Alzheimer’s symptoms.
